Home: Our Ministry
George and Karen with their five children (Adam,
Amy, Alisa, Aaron, and Angelie) served with ABWE in a Muslim-majority
country from 1987 to 1999. In 1999, they accepted a new assignment
as missionaries to the Muslim World at large. George and Karen are
Canadian citizens. George comes from Gravenhurst, Ontario, and Karen
(nee Anderson) is from Brantford.
George came to accept Christ as Lord and Savior
at the age of 19 through a fellow-employees testimony. Karen
received the Lord as a young girl in her parents home. George
and Karen first met at London Baptist Bible College and Seminary,
and were married in 1980. After graduation, George served on the
pastoral staff of Calvary Baptist Church, Guelph, Ontario. Calvary
commissioned the Kings as missionaries and sent them out with ABWE
in 1987.
Until 1994, the Kings lived in a populous seaport
city of the Muslim country of their residence. There God used them
to establish ABWEs first-ever church whose membership consisted
almost entirely of former Muslims. Following that, the Kings moved
to a more rural location, where they continued to work at establishing
churches and training church leaders. Under George's leadership,
new congregations sprang up at major population centres throughout
that part of the country. George also headed the team translating
the Bible into the mother tongue of local Muslims, with well over
100 million speakers in that country alone. The translation has
since been released to the public.
As missionaries to the Muslim World, the Kings reach
out to Muslims where they are and serve as an international consultant
to ABWE fields where Muslims live. George trains missionaries and
other Christian workers in the how-tos of ministering to Muslims.
He also pioneered and maintains an internet Bible correspondence
school specifically designed for Muslims, the Al-Kitab
Scripture Research Institute. Karen reaches out through the
teaching of English as a second language.
New Ministry Overseas
The Kings are looking forward to a new overseas ministry among Muslims. Their ministry plan is in two parts as follows.
Part 1: Equip local Christians to evangelize Muslims through a new resource and training project set up for this very purpose (classroom seminars and direct evangelism opportunities).
Part 2: Partner with a single church in a neighbourhood with a significant Muslim population, in order to bring about an effective outreach program and a nurturing environment for new believers within that church. This may result in new believers being welcomed into the existing church membership and/or a separate church plant for new believers as appropriate.
George has been to the new field 6 times in the last 6 years in preparation for ministry there. The Kings are presently fundraising and hope to have full support and arrive in the summer of 2008.
